3D Modeling at DH @ Guelph
I recently took part in the 3D Modeling workshop as part of the DH @ Guelph summer workshops.
I had a blast learning about 3D modeling from Ar Ducao and managed to produce this beauty.
I’ll admit, it’s not much. All you can really do in a week is just learn to import a bunch of freely available stuff.
- Plant and statue models
- Character generated in Maya
- Animations
But learning how to combine these elements using AutoDesk Maya taught me a lot about how much work goes into 3d animation.
While the workshops mainly focused around Maya, I think I would prefer to use the open source alternative Blender instead for future projects. I am not fundamentally against paid software, but I do take issue with software that requires me to manually edit the Windows registry to uninstall it.
That small nitpick aside, I had a blast this year and have every intention of returning again.
